Wellbeing to boost productivity November 2010
Posted date: 1 November 2010
Employers are saving millions of pounds by investing in health and wellbeing benefits for their staff.
A new report published by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) has shown that companies that provide workplace benefits, such as physiotherapy services, make savings through higher productivity and fewer absences.
In the CSP’s report, Sickness Costs, it was found that many employers were unaware of the potential cost savings. The society is concerned that the attitudes of some employers may prevent staff from seeking help for preventable health problems.
The survey found that three in 10 managers believe staff who call in sick with a recurring condition are well enough to work, but just don’t want to, while 50 per cent of workers fear being sacked or facing redundancy if they are off sick.
Ben Willmott, Senior Public Policy Adviser for the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, commented on the report and believes that it highlights the importance of investing in employee wellbeing.
He said: “Early intervention can make all the difference in managing problems.”
