Pay rises creep up February 2012
Posted date: 31 January 2012
Pay rises in January 2012 were at their highest level since December 2008.
The average increase now stands at 2.8 per cent, although this is limited to the private sector as the public arena has little bargaining power at this time of year.
Throughout 2011 the median wage rise ranged between two and 2.5 per cent. These latest findings from XpertHR suggest a marked increase in remuneration deals.
Although the results showed that wage freezes remained at some firms, almost half of the salary packages negotiated in January were worth three per cent or more. The most common amount awarded was three per cent.
Analysis of pay awards from last year showed a similar pattern of high payments at the beginning of the year.
